On Monday evening, March 24th, St. Stephen’s M2M 2014 mission team returned from our eight-day trip to build three homes in Tijuana with Amor Ministries. In short, we had a great trip! Our team of 45 adults and youth completed three homes for three lovely families whose need of them was great.
We were truly blessed with dry weather. You might think think this was a blessing because it made our camping accommodations more pleasant and, while this is true, there is a much more important reason that having dry weather was a blessing. Frankly, we could not have gotten to the work sites if there had been any rain. The homes we built were in a neighbourhood that terraced the side of a hill and the roads to the sites were made of dirt and very very steep. If they had been wet our vans would not have been able to make the climb ... and so we were grateful that each morning as we arose and realized that we would be able to get to work! Simple blessings that you take for granted at home mean a lot in the mission field.
Our days in Mexico were full - full of work, full of challenge, full of deepening friendships and full of glimpses of God that reminded us that this wasn’t our mission, it was His. There will be many stories told in the coming weeks but, for now, we thank you for your love, for your support and for your prayers. They were answered in more vast and transformative ways than you can imagine!
I started this by saying that we were home ... mostly. The truth is that we are delighted to be home and back with our families. But there is also a part of our hearts that remains with the families we built for and at our camp in Tijuana where we experienced much that is beyond words.
Dios te bendiga (God bless you).
