The heavens are telling the glory of God,
And all creation is shouting for joy!
Come, dance in the forest, come, play in the field,
And sing, sing to the glory of the Lord!

Marty Haugen’s lyrics to his “Canticle of the Sun,” based on words written by St Francis, are the perfect invitation to celebrate Earth Day, this Friday, 22 April.  Earth Month is a season in which many spiritual communities are making their faithful call to work for environmental justice.
This year is also a time of holy confluence, with Ramadan, Pesach (Passover), and Easter all coinciding for the first time in 30 years. Faiths around the world are holding vigils and workshops to pray for and raise awareness of our holy call to tend and protect God’s creation.  The joy of Easter is not just for us humans but for all of creation.  In this spirt I share with you the rest of Canticle of the Sun; and below invite you to a livestream concert tomorrow, 22 April, 12:00pm PST, at Union Theological Seminary:  Earth Day 2022 – Life Force, by the Center for Earth Ethics

The heavens are telling the glory of God,
And all creation is shouting for joy!
Come, dance in the forest, come, play in the field,
And sing, sing to the glory of the Lord!
Praise for the sun, the bringer of day,
he carries the light of the Lord in his rays;
the moon and the stars who light up the way unto your throne!
Praise for the wind that blows through the trees,
the seas' mighty storms, the gentlest breeze;
they blow where they will
they blow where they please to please the Lord!
Praise for the rain that waters our fields,
and blesses our crops so all the earth yields;
from death unto life her mystery revealed
springs forth in joy!
Praise for the earth,
who makes life grow
the creatures you made to let your life show;
the flowers and trees that help us to know
the heart of love
The heavens are telling the glory of God,
And all creation is shouting for joy!
Come, dance in the forest, come, play in the field,
And sing, sing to the glory of the Lord!
Sing, sing to the glory of the Lord!

“Spend an afternoon tending to the best of the human spirit, which is part and parcel of the life force that animates our planet.
Earth Day 2022 is an opportunity for tapping into the creative energy that flows through each of us, a counterpoint to the overload of information and analysis that can leave us depleted and exhausted—and a boost to get us to the other side. Gather with artists, poets, thought leaders and climate scientists who are reimagining and recasting how we experience the greatest challenge of our time. “ Register at:   https://centerforearthethics.org/

May your Earth Day celebrations nourish and inspire you to continue praying and acting year-round for environmental justice!
