Read

The scripture reading for today is Isaiah 53:2-5, 11-12.  Here is a link to that passage in an online bible:

Read the passage aloud slowly, knowing that this “suffering servant” passage is a prophecy about Jesus.  If possible, read the expanded passage as well.

Think

Read the passage again.  This time, consider who is speaking.

1.     We, our and us (verses 2-5) indicate that the speaker is Israel as a nation or a prophet of Israel (Isaiah).  In this section, what words, phrases, or ideas are most personal for you?
2.    I and my (verses 11-12) indicate God is the speaker  In this section, what most touches you about God’s words about Jesus?
3.    How will Jesus “make many ‘righteous ones’” “through what he experienced”?

•    his sacrifice of his life?
•    his actions inspiring others?
•    his person calling you?
•    his praying for you? (Romans 8:34)
•    some other way?

Pray
Respond to God about the words that touched you most.  Talk also to God about how Jesus can make you righteous.

Live
Move through your day with this idea: Jesus “died without a thought for his own welfare.” If he died that way, how much more must he have lived that way?  Try living that selflessly a few minutes at a time.
