Earl Geddes

Hi, my name is Earl Geddes.  I moved to Qualicum Beach from the farming community in Manitoba where I farmed, marketed grain and promoted field crops around the world.  This is also where I grew up with some of the most important people in my life, my wife Helen-Ann and our two children Sohmer and Matt. Our children are now married and the most important people in my life are our children and four grandsons.  

For me the church… has always played an important role in my life in terms of helping me to understand how I should (not necessarily how I do) live my life and treat other people.  

One of the big surprises for me at this stage in my life… (retired nearly nine years and moved away from my lifetime home) is how interested I am in exploring and gaining a greater understanding of my faith.  I am finding there are great challenges and blessings in understanding the teaching of Jesus. 

On a really bad day I… didn't get to take any photographs or go hiking, gardening or make any bird houses. 

On a really good day I…did all of these things and spent some quality time with my wife Helen-Ann and our many new friends.  As well a really good day looks like leaving on a new adventure somewhere around the world.

My favourite comfort food is… potato chips or maybe peanut butter or maybe steak with a glass of red wine.  I’m not sure, but then it is okay to change it up a bit I think.

I used to be…very focused on the work I was doing with a sense that if I didn't do it, it wouldn't get done and it was important work.  I guess I missed the message that God promised that I was never alone and that loving was the most important thing we can do.

Some wise words that inspire me…I am not particularly inspired by any set of words but the Lord’s Prayer and the key teachings of the Sermon on the Mount are increasingly helping me to understand what I should be doing with my life.

If I wasn’t living here right now…that would be too bad as this is an amazingly beautiful place with lots of great people.  However if I wasn't here I would want to live closer to my children and brother so we could just be together a little closer than a telephone call, Facebook or texting.
