For those who are listening but were not able to be with us at St. Stephen's on Feb. 16th the following explanation may help to clarify one part near the end of the sermon. Not long before the conclusion, as I say, "Sometimes people have found themselves reading scripture like this..." I used a gesture where I lifted my hand and held it in front of and very close to my face, as if I was holding the bible too close to be able to read it clearly. And then I describe how Jesus urges us to hold it back a bit, so that we can see it more clearly and in the way God has always intended. With this I moved my hand back, as though to give a clearer more overall view.
